POH Ch 7 - Systems Descriptions Flashcards
Describe the BE76 airframe
The BEECHCRAFT Duchess 76 is an:
All-metal,
low-wing,
twin-engine airplane with
retractable tricycle landing gear.
The T-tail empennage assembly consists of a vertical
stabilizer and a top-mounted horizontal stabilizer.
What is the seating arrangement
In the standard configuration the airplane is equipped with
two adjustable pilot seats and one rear fixed-bench seat.
Describe the support and operation of the control surfaces
The control surfaces are bearing supported and operated
through conventional cable systems and push-pull rods terminating in bell cranks.
Describe the control column
The airplane is equipped with dual control columns for the
pilot and copilot. The control wheels are interconnected and provide aileron and elevator control.
Describe the rudder pedals
The standard installation provides a set of rudder pedals with toe breaks for both the pilot and copilot.
Describe the trim controls
Adjustable rudder and elevator controls are mounted on the lower console.
They are connected through closed cable systems
There are mechanical position indicators for each
There is electric trim control for the elevator
Where is the manual elevator trim located
Its located between the pilots seats and is actuated by a hand wheel
Describe the electric trim system
It is made up of a ON-OFF circuit breaker type switch and a thumb switch on the pilots control wheel
There is also an emergency release on the pilots handle grip.
How does the aileron trim system work
Trim is accomplished by displacing the ailerons with cable loads imposed by the trimmer
Describe the ground control system
Nose wheel steering is provided by spring loaded linkage from the nose gear to the rudder pedals.
Increased turning can be accomplished with differential braking and differential power.
Describe the wing flap system
Controlled by a three position switch (UP, OFF, DOWN)
The indicator marks UP, 10, 20, and DOWN
Limit switches will interrupt power when maximum travel is reached
Intermitted flap settings are accomplished by putting the switch in the off position
When should the landing hear warning horn come on if the flaps are lowered while the gear is still up
approximately 16 degrees
Describe the landing gear system
It is a retractable tricycle landing gear fabricated from magnesium castings and aluminum forgings
Retraction is accomplished through the use of an electrically driven hydraulic actuator mounted in each wheel well.
The landing gear is controlled by a two position switch
What is the time delay relay on the landing gear hydraulic pump
Landing gear retraction operation is protected by a time- delay relay which will disengage electrical power to the hydraulic pump motor after 30 seconds of continuous pump operation.
If the landing gear in-transit light remains illuminated, it indicates improper response of the landing gear.
The time-delay relay can be reset by moving the landing gear switch handle to the down position.
What is the purpose of the safety pressure switch on the landing gear
a safety pressure switch is installed in the pitot system lo deactivate the hydraulic pressure pump circuit when the impact air pressure is below 59 to 63 knots.
When will the gear warning horn sound
When both throttles are reduced with the gear up
or when the flaps are extended beyond 16 degrees with the gear up
What is the warning horn Q switch
It is to prevent the gear warning horn from sounding with the throttle(s) retarded and the landing gear retracted.
But the airspeed must be above 99 - 106 and the flaps must be retracted above 16 degrees
What is the purpose of the warning horn silence button
To manually silence the warning horn with the throttle retarded, the landing gear retracted, and the flaps above 16 degrees
What circuit breakers are associated with the landing gear
Gear Motor and Gear Control circuit breaker
How does the manual gear extension system function
When you turn the hydraulic pressure bypass valve 90 degrees counterclockwise the system pressure is released and the gear falls down into the down and lock position
Describe the brake system
There are main wheel toe brakes, a parking brake, and fluid reservoir accessible through the nose
What kind of seat belts are provided with all seats
Lever-action, quick-release, all metal buckles.
What is the minimum height for the shoulder harness
4’7”
What kind of cabin doors does the airplane have?
One conventional door on each side
How can you alleviate cabin pressure?
By opening the storm window
Can you open the aft utility door from the inside
Yes, by pulling out on the locking pin and rotating it counterclockwise.
How many emergency exits is the BE76 equipped with
3
Describe the engine on the BE76
There are two Avco Lycoming engines installed
(1) O-360-A1G6D Clockwise. Left
(1) LO-360-A1G6D Counter clockwise Right
4 cylinder, direct drive, horizontally opposed, and rated at 180 HP at 2700 RPM
What are the engine controls
Two throttles, propeller controls, and mixture control levers
Where is the engine control friction knob located
On the right side of the control levers
What is the purpose of control friction
To prevent creeping of the control levers
What engine instruments are available
Left and right Fuel quantity Fuel pressure Oil pressure Oil temperature CHT Load meters (annunciators and test switches) Dual tach Dual manifold And dual EGT
What does the dual manifold pressure gauge indicate
The pressure of the fuel air entering the cylinders
What scale is the manifold pressure calibrated
Inches of mercury
What type of oil system is installed
A wet sump pressure type oil system
What is the engine oil sump capacity
8 quarts
Are the left and right dip sticks interchangeable
No because the engines are canted and the dip stick must be calibrated
How are oil operating temperatures controlled
With an automatic thermostat bypass control.
How does the automatic thermostat bypass control regulate oil temperature
The bypass control will limit the oil flow through the oil cooler when operating temperatures are below normal
If the oil cooler is blocked it will be bypassed
What engine ice production is available
The carb air head is available to reduce induction icing
What happens when the carb heat is in the on position
Unfiltered air enters the carburetor
Where is the induction air filter
Above the engine inside the nacelle area
How many positions do the cowl flaps have
Three:
Close (up)
Half
Open (down)
Where is the engine primer
There are push primers on each magneto switch
When would the started light illuminate
When power is being supplied to the starter
What could happen if the starter engaged light remains on after start
A loss of electrical power could result
What kind of propellers is the BE76 equipped with?
The airplane is equipped with two Hartzell, 76-inch diameter, constant-speed, full-feathering, two-blade propellers.
What controls the propeller RPM?
Propeller rpm is controlled by the engine-driven propeller governor which regulates hydraulic oil pressure to the hub.
What moves the blades to high pitch angles (low RPM)
Springs and dome air pressure, aided by counterweights, move the blades to high pitch.
What moves the blades to low pitch (high RPM)?
Engine oil under governor-boosted pressure moves the blades to the high rpm (low pitch) position.
