Terms:
The form of a poem is the physical arrangement of words on the page.
Alliteration is a repetition of initial consonant sounds in nearby words.
Assonance is the repetition of vowel sounds in within words.
Consonance is a repetition of consonant sounds within or at the end of words.
Rhyme is a repetition of final sounds in two or more words.
Simile is a comparison using the signal words like or as.
A Metaphor is a direct comparison, using no signal words.
Personification is a type of figurative language giving animals, objects, ore ideas human characteristics.
Sonnet-fourteen lines of iambic pentameter-The Shakespearean sonnet is divided into three
quatrains and a couplet that rhymes. It also has a fixed rhyme scheme of abab cocd efef gg.
