Free Verse
Unrhymed poetry written in iambic pentameter.
Blank Verse:
Rhyme in which the sounds are similar but not exact.
Slant Rhyme
Rhyme that occurs within a single line of verse.
Internal Rhyme
The pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables in a poem.
Rhythm
Descriptive language that appeals to the senses, creating vivid mental images.
imagery
A reference to a well-known person, event, or literary work.
allusion
Repetition of initial consonant sounds in neighboring words.
alliteration
Describing one sensory experience in terms of another.
synesthesia
Giving human characteristics to non-human entities.
personification
A direct address to an absent person or abstract concept.
