rhyme sceme
a pattern of lines in poetry where the final words rhyme with eachother
stanza
a group of lines
couplet
two lines of poetry next to eachother that form a unit through rhyme or rhythm
free verse
a poem that doesn’t have to follow specific rules about rhyme, length of lines, number of lines, or rhythm
haiku
a japanese poem that consists of three lines, has a strict number of syllables (5,7,5), and is usually about nature.
limerick
a five line poem that follows the AABBA rhyme scheme and is often humorous.
Ballad
A poem that tells of a person or event following a set rhyme scheme and has a repeated line of stanza.
Slam poetry
A form of poetry in which poets perform spoken word before a live audience
Metaphor
A comparison of two unlike things without using like or as
Simile
A comparison of two unlike things using like or as
Personification
Giving non-human things human like traits.
Symbolizim
Something that is recognized to represent something else
Repetition
Using the same word or words over and over again to emphasize the importance of or bring attention to a particular part
Figurative Language
A word or phrase that does not have its normal everyday, literal meaning
Imagery
Text that makes you feel using one of your 5 senses.
