Paradox
Self contradictory (I spent a week there one day)
Alliteration
The reoccurence of a letter or sound. (Peter piper picked a pack of pickled peppers)
Metaphor
A comparison not using like or as (I fell through a trap door of depression)
Allusion
Indirect reference to something else. (avatar kedavra he said through the willows?)
Simile
A comparison using like or as. (as brave as a lion)
Onomatopoeia
A word that sounds like the sound. (pop, sizzle,cuckoo,boom)
Tone
The quality or feeling. (I HATE THIS CLASS, compared to I don’t enjoy being present in this class)
Imagery
Visually descriptiveness. (the old beaten down and muddy road led to a run down shack with barely noticeable red shutters)
Symbolism
Use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. (he led our group as the sun leads the planets)
Hyperbole
Extreme exaggeration. (it was the most amazing and colorful and fantastic thing a person could have ever seen!!!!!)
