Q

Ozymandias

A

Compares with Tissue

Ozymandias and My Last Duchess both explore how human think they are powerful (symbolised through art) however this is an illusion

Ozymandias and Tissue Both explore how humans try to control and exert power, but ultimately it is nature that is truly powerful

Opening:
In the opening of Ozymandias, Shelley establishes ideas of humans false sense of power. “cold command”- The alliteration of cold command shows the harsh nature of Ozymandias and that his power was built on the exploitation of other people. In tissue, ideas of the illusion of human’s power are demonstrated through the use of listing “their borderlines, the marks…., roads, rail tracks mountainfolds”- This use of listing symbolises the tight control that man uses to express his power by segregation. However, Dharker undermines this by the enjambment within the poem , which demonstrates that human power in always overcome by nature. Enjambment lacks control, defies restrictions and reflects the lack of power that man truly has.
