Charge of the light brigade- league
Half a league, half a league, half a league onward
Where did the 600 ride - COTLB
Into the valley of death
Rode the six hundred
Cannons - COTLB
Cannon to right of them
Cannon to left of them
Cannon in front of them
Sound of cannons - COTLB
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell
Mouth and jaw - COTLB
Into the jaws of death,
Into the mouth of hell
Swords - COTLB
Sabre-stroke
Shatter’d and sunder’d
Winds knifes- exposure
The merciless iced east winds that knive us…
What happens- exposure
But nothing happens
Wind/ barbed wire - exposure
Mad gusts tugging on the wire,
Like twitching agonies of men among brambles.
Bullets flying- exposure
Sudden successive flights of bullets streak the silence.
Air - exposure
Less deadly than the air that shudders black with snow
Dying? - exposure
Is it that we are dying?
Ghosts - exposure
Slowly our ghosts drag home
Mice - exposure
For hours the innocent mice rejoice
God - exposure
For love of god seems dying
Faces - exposure
Pause over half known faces
How many were left of 600 - COTLB
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred
Peak - prelude
A huge peak, black and huge
Mountains head - prelude
As if with voluntary power instinct,
Upreared it’s head.
Mountain growing - prelude
Growing still in stature
Mountain moving - prelude
Like a living thing,
Strode after me.
Doesn’t see - prelude
No familiar shapes
Remained, no pleasant images of trees,
Of sea or sky, no colours of green fields
