metaphor

personification
giving a human characteristics to something non-human (lightning danced)

resemblance of sound between syllables of nearby words (the sound of hounds)
consonance
rhe recurrance of similar-sounding consonants in close proximity (lapping up his dripping iron)
rhetorical question
asked in order to create a dramatic effect rather than to get an answer
hyperbole
exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally (her brain is the size of a pea)
rhyming
ending with a sound that corresponds to another
onomatopoeia
a word from a sound associated with what is named (the dog barked)
alliteration
the same letter or sound at the befinning of adjacent or closely connected words (sheep should sleep in a shed

stating something by saying the opposite (what a sense of humour you have)
imagery
vivid or descriptive language which describes an experience of the senses (seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, smelling or feeling)

a material object that represents something immaterial or abstract
