Metaphor
-A figure of speech in which two unlike things are compared without the use of like or as.
-It says the subject is something else
Simile
Uses the word ‘like’ or ‘as’ to describe things because they are saying that the subject is like or as something. In other words, the subject is similar to something else.
Imagery
Assonance
The repetition of vowel sounds close together, between different consonants, usually in a line of poetry. Sometimes also called a “vowel rhyme”.
Alliteration
Onomatopeia
The formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named. A word that actually looks like the sound it makes, and we can almost hear those sounds as we read.
Hyperbole
Makes exaggerated comparisons for effect. Sometimes can be very funny. Often used in fairy tales and tall tales to make the story interesting.
Personification
A figurative language that attributes human characteristics to a creature, idea, or object.
Rhyme Scheme
The ordered pattern of rhymes at thends of the lines of a poem or verse.
