Identical or very similar recurring final sounds in words (rhyming words may occur at the ends of lines or within lines)
Rhyme
Repititon of the same sounds at the beginning of two or more adjacent words or stressed syllables
Alliteration
The basic rhythmic structure in verse,made up of stressed and unstressed syllables
Meter
A rhyme withing the same line of verse as dreary and weary in poe’s the raven
Internal rhyme
The use of words that sound like what they mean
Onomatopoeia
The pattern of rhyming lines
Rhyme scene
The Repititon of internal or ending consonant sounds close together
Consonance
The repetition of vowel sounds in words close together
Assonance
A repeating cadence/meter that enriches pelt emphasizes words, phrases lines and even whole verses of poems
Repetition
An intentionally exaggerated figure of speech for emphasis or effect
Hyperbole
A subtle comparison in which the author describes a person or thing using words that are not meant to be taken literally
Metaphor
A metaphor in which the comparison is Carried through several lines or even the entire literary work
Extended metaphors
Figurative language in which non-human things or abstractions are represented as having human qualities
Personification
A comparison of two things that are essentially different,usually using the words like or as
Simile
The use of language to create mental images and sensory impressions
