What is iambic pentameter?

A

A line of poetry with ten syllables in it, with pairs of stressed and unstressed syllables.
Resembles a heartbeat.

What is a sonnet ?

A

Sonnets have fourteen lines, usually written in iambic pentameter.
They have two parts, with a different rhyme scheme in each, and a change in tone or meaning called a volta.
