We beat out the natural emphasis on syllables.

Repetition
When you repeat the same word, phrase, sentence, idea or stanza through out the poem for effect.
Juxtaposition
When two opposite or contrasting ideas are near each other
Caesura
When theres a forced break in a line.
Made by a putting a ; . - : … in the middle if a line. Also made by breaking off one line and indenting the following line.
Enjambment
When a line not end with any punctuation but ‘runs on’ into the next line.
Oxymoron
A contradiction in terms.
When two opposite or incompatible words are next to each other.
Simile
A way of describing some thing, comparing it to some thing else.
E.G. I was so cold, it was like needles were biting my skin
With like or as
Metaphor
Describing something by saying it is something else.
The snow is a white blanket.
