personification
a figure of speech which gives human qualities, feelings, actions or characteristics to non-human things. eg. the leaves are dancing in the wind
imagery
consists of words/phrases that appeal to the reader’s 5 senses; look, feel, sound, taste….
alliteration
repetition of initial consonant sounds. eg. peter piper picked peppers
assonance
repetition of vowel sounds in the middle of words. eg. and the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
onomatopoeia
words that sound like their meaning. eg. snap, roar, sizzle
repetition
the use of any element of language more than once
rhyme
roses are red, violets are blue. sweet is sugar and so you are
