Alliteration
words that have the same first consonant sound and are close
Couplet
two lines of poetry
Assonance
two or more words close to each other that repeat the same vowel but have different beginning consonant sounds
Rhyme scheme
pattern of rhyme at the end of each line
Internal rhyme
middle words and end words rhyme
Rhetorical situation
explains why the speaker utters these words; explains situation
Enjambment
when a poet’s thoughts spill onto the next lines
Onomatopoeia
a sound that is a word
Repitition
the repeating of the same word or phrase
Refrain

Paralleism
components in a sentence that are grammatically same or similar in the construction sound
Consonance
repetitive sounds produced by consonants within a sentence or phrase
Ode
a poem that is praising a person, place, or thing; pays tribute; appreciation
Allusion
indirect or passing reference to some event, people, place, or artistic work
