- sterile technique at insertion
- cleansing perineum well routinely

closed = continuous flow
open = manual

instructions to pt after foley removal
A
- increase fluid intake
- tell nurse first time need to void (nurse needs to assess first void within 6-8 hr post removal)
- measure first void
- some irritation upon first void
- try to empty bladder fully
