POCT Flashcards
1
Q
What do different types of POCT cell counters measure
A
Hemoglobin Concentration
Hematocrit
Cell Counts
Platelet Counts
2
Q
POCT - Coagulation
how does it work
A
- used near pt
-need only small volumes
-enhances ability to monitor oral anticoagulant therapy
-if INR exceeds 6.0 it is confirmed by venipuncture using plasma based assay
3
Q
how is Heparin Therapy
monitored with POCT
A
-unfractionated heparin therapy is monitored using ACT = ACTIVATED CLOTTING TIME
-ACT is modified whole blood clotting test time whose results are comparable with APTT
-rapid TAT allows faster administration of Heparin preventing bleeding or clotting episodes
-ACT needs whole blood, machine does QC and test is based on the detection of mechanical clot end point
4
Q
how quick do patients on oral coumadin need to be monitored
A
- VIt K antagonists like coumadin need to monitored monthly
-quick POCT helps with dose adjustment, reduction in pt waiting time and patient education
