PO Learning Path Flashcards
What does empiricism in action actually look like?
The Art of the Possible: sometimes the goals of a product may not be achievable with reasonable cost, sometimes the goals are achieved in a different way than previously envisioned. It’s all about doing what we can with what we have. Responding to change, not following a plan.
When a dev team commits to a set of product backlog items during sprint planning, what are they promising to do?
They’re not guaranteeing that it will all be done, they’re committing to doing their best with what they have and to provide something that the PO can work with to make decisions. It’s more a forecast than commitment. Doing whatever it takes and oftentimes compromising quality to get it done is a remnant of waterfall.
What is the Predictability trap?
Orgs and teams often focus on productivity and predictability, instead of value being delivered.
Tracking productivity does not help in improving it. Instead, focus on clearly articulating goals, eliminating waste and impediments.
Agility within orgs: Not a set process or tool that can be installed. It’s a cultural quality.
