PNS practicle 2 Flashcards
what happens if there is a lesion in the ventral root
reduced sensation from that dermatome - not really noticeable because dermatome still gets signals from other spinal layers
what happens if there is a lesion in the ventral root
muscle weakness in the myotome - still get some signal from other spinal layers
what happens if there is a lesion in the spinal nerve
reduced sensory effect and weakness in myotome
what happens id there is a lesion in the nerve after the plexus
no sensation/paralysis in area - no other nerves innovate the tissue
what is the function of the node of ranvier
point where ap is propagated
where the Na channels are
allow saltatory conduction - so fast velocity of nerve impulses
how can you tell whether demyelination occurred because of nerve crushing/ neuropathy
if demyelination constant - nerve crushing
in neuropathy - demyelination would be random
how can you tell a nerve is regenerated not normal
has non-specific myelination of 1 axon
shwann cells are smaller than in normal neurons
how can you tell a neuron is regenerating
sprouting comes off axon - trying to find way back to original muscle
one sprout is then selected and is myelinated
