PNS Flashcards
1
Q
Somatic NS
A
- controls skeletal muscles under voluntary control except reflexes
- motor neurons are inside the CNS and axons extend to the skeletal muscles
- one neuron
- releases ACh
2
Q
Control of ANS
A
- hypothalamus in charge of functions
- reticular formation of the brain stem exerts the most direct control over autonomic functions
3
Q
Structure of ANS
A
- two neurons connect the CNS to its effector
- pre and post ganglionic neuron
4
Q
Pre-ganglionic neuron
A
- cell body in the CNS
- thin axon with very little myelin
- synapses with post-ganglionic neuron
- neurotransmitter: acetylcholine (ACh)
5
Q
Post-ganglionic neuron
A
- cell body Ina ganglion
- thin axon, no myelin
- synapses with an effector
- neurotransmitter: ACh or NE
