Symptoms of Pneumonia
A
fevers, rigors, cough +/- sputum, dyspnoea, haemoptysis, malaise, pleuritic pain

4 classifications of Pneumonia
A
- Community acquired - strep pneumonia or haem influenza most common
- Hospital acquired - gram neg or staph aureus
- Aspiration Pneumonia
- Immunocompromised Pneumonia

Examination findings
A
fever, cyanosis, confusion, tachypnoea, tachycardia, hypotension, consolidation chest findings

Investigations? Scoring?
A
CXR - O2 saturation - ABG if severe bloods -CBC, UEC, CRP, B.culture Sputum culture and microscopy Urine - for pneumococcal and legionella antigen PCR sputum, BAL if in ICU

management
A
Antibiotics - oral or IV O2 as required IVF Analgesia - if pleurisy repeat CXR if not improving - and in 6-8weeks
Pneumococcal vaccine to at risk people

Complications
A
pleural effusion, empyema, lung abscess, Resp failure, septicaemia, pericarditis
