PN466 Flashcards
What is the purpose of BA procedures?
Reduce the risk of respiratory discomfort or injury and provide safe systems of work
PN466 2.1
What is a BA sector?
A functional sector with a designated ‘Sector Commander BA’ supporting BA operations, resourcing, logistics and any other BA requirements. (This is the new term for ‘BA Main Control’).
PN466 3.2
What is an ECPS?
Minimum rank CM, appointed when Stage 2 is implemented, provides greater level of control at an ECP.
PN466 3.8
What is a ‘New Entry’?
A BA wearer is wearing for the first or second time. Minimum pressure of 240bar when reporting to ECO.
PN466 3.13
What is a ‘Re-entry’?
A BA wearer, having closed down their BA set, is re-deployed to complete a specific that does NOT include firefighting. Minimum pressure 190bar and not to exceed 15 minutes duration.
PN466 3.14
What is a TAP
Turn Around Pressure: the pre-determined cylinder pressure at which the BA team should commence withdrawal. (TAP should be reviewed by the wearers… ECO must be informed of any change).
Not to be confused with ‘turn around point’ (pre-determined point, location or landmark) which is not routinely abbreviated.
PN466 3.18
What is a ‘turn around time’?
The pre-determined time the BA team will begin to withdraw… communicated by the ECO/ECPS i.e. to limit exposure to extreme conditions.
PN466 3.20
What are the two conditions necessary to permit a BA wearer to work alone?
- Operations are NOT within a building or structure.
- The BA wearer is always in view of the IC or other nominated officer.
PN466 4.6
Which hazards can reasonably be expected to be encountered at incidents where BA is worn?
- Atmosphere
- Temperature
- Reduced visibility
- Electricity
- Cables (entanglement)
- Structural failure (entrapment)
- Environmental (weather, terrain, height, unsafe structures, confined spaces, topographical
- Hazardous materials
- Manual handling (SDBA 16.5kg EDBA 22kg)
If both telemetry and radio communications with the ECO or Comms Op is lost, what actions must be taken by the BA team?
The BA team MUST withdraw to a point where communications can be restored AND this position must be landmarked for deployment of telemetry repeaters
PN466 7.7
When ‘leaky feeders’ are in use, which channel should BA teams transmit on?
Channel 5
PN466 7.10
What is the minimum information a briefing from an IC or SC to a BA team should include?
- WHERE and HOW to enter the risk area
- Team OBJECTIVES (and their part in the IC’s plan
- Identified HAZARDS
- LIMITATIONS on wear duration
What actions must a BA wearer take if his Bodyguard ‘reduced battery level’ icon and alarm actuates:
1. PRIOR to booking in at an ECP?
or
2. WHILST being worn in a risk area?
- Withdraw from the ECP; take set out of service and replace on appliance to recharge.
- Inform ECO or Comms Op immediately; continue with deployment; following withdrawal from risk area, take out of service and replace on appliance to recharge.
PN466 7.16 & 7.17
What are the three methods BA team members must employ one or more of in order to maintain close personal contact with one another?
- Attachment by short BA personal line
- Actual physical contact
- Within physical touching distance
PN466 7.20
Which colour flashing LED on a bodyguard indicates a telemetry signal?
Blue.
