What are the PMS subtypes?
PMS A - anxiety
PMS C - craving
PMS-D -depression
PMS H - Hyperhydration
What is PMS A?
PMS anxiety associated with high O:P - irritabilty and anxiety
Define PMS C
Craving - blood glucose imbalance, hypoglycaemia, low Mg, increased appetite, sugar cravings
Define PMS D
depression - low oestrogen:progesterone ratio and neurotransmitter imbalance
Define PMS H
Hyperhydration - increased water retention secondary to increased aldosterone -= excess salt, oestrogen or stress or Mg deficinecy - weight gain, breast tenderness, abdominal bloating, swelling in extremities
What is the cause/risk factors of PMS?
Interations between oestogen, progesterone and neurotransmitters

High dairy/sugar
High omega6:3 ratio
What would be a naturopathic approach to PMS?

How can the oesttogen:progesterone ratio be balance?
Support oestrogen detoxification/elimination
Increase phytoestrogens - red clover tea
low saturated fat diet - reduced oestogen circulation
remove endocrine disruptors
Herbal medicines - Agnus castus
Increase Fibre, Mg, B vitamins
How would you go about balancing neurotransmitters in the case of PMS?
L-Tryptophan or 5-HTP Tyrosine B6 B12 Folate Zn Mg L-theanine Remove alcohol and caffeine optimise sleep exercise
How would you reduce water retention in PMS?
Reduce sodium and increase potassium-rich foods
Vitamin B6 - regulates aldosterone
Seed cycling
Diuretics
