What did you learn at Heritage gardens?
- Variety of different patients (Hospice unit, stroke, Alzheimer’s, rehab)
- Rehab; worked with Alma, motivating
- Basic CNA duties: bed baths, showers, changing briefs, etc.
Why did you want to become a CNA?
- CMA or CNA ; interested in healthcare (science & human interaction) –> good opportunity to get my foot in the door
- Decided on CNA because of emphasis on patient interaction (favorite things during training was working with residents and getting to know them better)
- Become a better healthcare provider in the future
Major strength(s)?
- Resourceful/creative (better, more efficient ways to do things), organized/time-management, eager to learn
- Optimistic, has a lot of energy
Major weakness(es)?
- Not knowing when to ask for help; oldest siblings, independent
- CNA –> a lot outside of my scope of practice, have to know when to ask for help b/c trying to do something by myself could hurt the patient –> learning how to rely on others and not be afraid to ask for help
Why should we pick you?
- Strong science background, eager to learn
- Worked with older individuals before (Training, Volunteer)
- I’m currently on summer break and I’m only taking online classes so that means I’m available any time and any day of the week, including weekends (on-call) –> prefer working day shifts
- Brain exercises for residents
How do you deal with an aggressive patient?
- Remain calm
- Listen, understand their side
- Give them time
- Get nurse for help if serious
Problems with co-workers?
- FPL Team member –> late to meetings, would be unresponsive
- See things from their perspective and have empathy
- Distributed her role among the rest of the team members
Tell me about a time you overcame a challenge.
Option 1: Shadowing at Redlands Urgent Care
- Extremely understaffed
- Take on role of an actual MA, taking patients to rooms, ordering labs, etc.
- Take initiative, think quickly, learn quickly
What do you do if you see a co-worker doing something wrong?
- Talk to the co-worker (figure out their intentions, was it an accident/intentional) –> reminder
- If the patient was harmed, then I would have to notify the charge nurse
How do you deal with a coworker that isn’t doing their part?
- Try to see where they’re coming from
- See how you can help them/motivate them
- Talk to the charge nurse
Questions to ask them.
