plumbing science Flashcards
what is voltage?
The unit for electromotive
what is resistance?
The ohms is the unit of resistance which opposes the flow of current
what is watts?
Watt is the unit of power for an appliance
what is joules?
joules is the unit of electrical energy today it would measure in kilowatts an hour
If an appliance needs 3KW in a domestic property, what is the fuse size?
3000 divided by 230 = 13W
In a domestic property an appliance has a fuse size of 3amp. What is the voltage required?
3 X 230 = 690W
An appliance has as amp fuse and needs 1.2KW of power. What is the voltage required?
1200 divided by 5 = 240W
What does KW stand for?
The K stands for kilo which is 1000 and the W stands for Watt
What would be the resistance of a domestic appliance if the fuse size was 3amp?
240 divided by 3 = 80 ohms
What is the fuse for a domestic appliance which has 1200 ohms resistance?
240 divided by 1200=0.2
What does AC stand for?
Alternating current from mains
What does DC stand for?
Direct current from batteries
Why is a TNS circuit separate?
A TNS circuit is separate because they all come in at different points
Why is a TNC circuit combined?
A TNC circuit is combined because the earth wire is connected to the neutral wire
What is a TT circuit?
This is different compared to the others because your earth doesn’t connect the electricity supply
What is the brown wire?
Its a live wire
What is the blue wire?
Its returns any electrical supply left in the circuit
What is the yellow and green wire?
When the circuit trips out it stop from any electric supply from getting out
What is the basic principle behind Newtons first law of motion
The rate of change of velocity in constant
In a hydraulic system pressure is generally measured in what unit?
Pascals
What is the primary difference between force and pressure?
Force is measured in newtons and pressure is measured in pascals
Which type of energy is conversion is commonly found in an internal combustion engine?
Chemical to Mechanical
What role do fluids play in a hydraulic system?
They transfer force through the pressurised liquid
Which property measures materials resistance to being formed?
Hardness
