Plumbing science Flashcards
What is ductility
a material’s ability to deform permanently, or plastically, before breaking
Hardness
The resistance of a material to being cut deformed or bent
Toughness
The amount of energy a material can absorb without breaking or fracturing
Tensile strength
The maximum force a material can withstand when being ppulled appart before breaking
Compressive strength
The maximum force a material can withstand when being crushed
Shear strength
The maximum force a material can withstand when being twisted
Malleability
The amount of hammering and shaping a material can withstand before breaking spliting or cracking
Elasticity
The length that a material can be stretched and return to its original length when released
Heat and electrical conductivity
The measure of how well a material conducts heat or electricity
Heaviness
The denseness of a material. A dense material will be heavier compaired to its size
Strength
The measure of how materials withstand heavy loads without breaking
