Plugs And Wires Flashcards
What is the colour and function of the live wire?
Brown, provides potential difference from the power supply approx (230 V)
What is the colour and function of the neutral wire?
Blue, completes the circuit back to the power supply. Current flows through the neutral wire but the potential difference is 0V
What is the colour and function of the earth wire?
Green and yellow, stops the casing of the electrical appliance from carrying a current. It only carries a current when there is a fault in the wiring
What are the three maximum current ratings of a fuse?
3,5,13
What is the alternating current and frequency of the mains supply?
230V, 50Hz
What are wires made with and coated with?
Copper, Insulating Plastic
What is the live wire connected to?
The fuse
Why do people get electrocuted if they touch a live wire?
They would get electrocuted because they are in contact with the earth
