What is summary for Part 1?
Raphael and Gardo, two trash boys who work picking trash in Behala, a city dumpsite. One day they find a leather bag and inside contains a wallet with eleven hundred pesos, a map, an ID for a man called Jose Angelico and a key. They stay silent about their discovery and enlist the help of Rat, another trash boy, to hide the bag from the police, who soon come looking for it and offer a lot of money to whoever finds it. The three boys go to the train station locker and find a letter addressed to a Gabriel Olondriz in Colva prison and a piece of paper with some code on it.
What is a summary for Part 2?
Father Juilliard runs the mission school in Behala and the boys use 2 him to find out more about Jose Angelico. The boys learn that Jose
Angelico died in a police station after he was accused of robbing 6 million dollars from the Vice President: Senator Zapanta. Meanwhile, Raphael is taken by the police and violently interrogated in a bid to find out the whereabouts of the bag. They threaten to kill him but he doesn’t tell them anything and eventually they release him.
What is a summary for Part 3?
Sister Oliva also works at the mission school and Gardo exploits her 3 generosity and gets her to take him to Colva Prison to speak to
Gabriel Olondriz and she has to pay a lot of money to get in. The conditions in Colva prison are truly terrible and when they finally meet Olondriz, Olivia learns she has been by Gardo. We also learn that Olondriz is Jose Angelico’s adoptive granddad and that has been in prison for over 30 years after he bought charges against Senator Zapanta. The Senator had been siphoning off UN aid money intended to help rebuild the city. Instead of seeing the Senator jailed, Gabriel Olondriz goes to jail on false charges. Gardo recites the letter from Jose Angelico- ‘it is accomplished’ and Gabriel Olondriz tells them they need his bible to translate the note found in the locker. He dies the next day. Meanwhile, Rat and Raphael take the bus to the rich part of the city and go to see Zapanta’s house. A gardener tells them that Jose Angelico – who was a house boy- smuggled the 6 million dollars out of the house in a fridge and that Zapanta was not well liked.
What is a summary for Part 4?
Rat steals money from the Mission school to pay the prison guard 4 Marco and get the bible. When Gardo goes to hand over the bible,
police appear and the boys run for their lives. They translate the note and realise that the next clue takes them to Naravo cemetery. The police come again and raid their flat at night but the boys manage to escape – using other gangs of street boys as cover.
What is a summary for Part 5?
It’s the Day of the Dead and the boys head to the cemetery which is 5 filled with people. They find the ‘brightest light’ which is the poor
part of the cemetery and they find the Angelico family graves – including one with Pia Dante (Angelico’s daughter) written on it. Just as they are thinking about breaking into it, a small girl appears who they realise is Pia and she has been waiting there for her father to arrive for almost two weeks. After they give her some food, they break into Pia’s grave and find the money. They take a small amount for themselves and leave the rest to blow over Behala in the storm – giving it to the poorest people in the city. They then leave for Sampalo in the south where they plan to fish.
