eric’s confession
the birlings argue about Eric’s drinking habits, he admits that he met Eva in the palace bar when he was drunk and effectively forced himself on her, they slept together many times before Eva revealed that she was pregnant, eric stole money to help Eva, when Eva found out it was stolen she refused to accept anymore
Inspector Goole’s messages
eric is furious at his mother for not helping the baby, the inspector turns to each character and reveal how they are responsible before the inspector leaves the stage he gives a speech about the significance of their actions on individuals and they cannot undo what they have done but they can change to redeem
the revelation
once the inspector has left they fight over responsibility, Mr b blames eric, sheila criticises her parents, the family begin to question the inspector’s authenticity, Gerald re-enters and confirms the inspector isn’t real, they believe the inspector could have conned them by showing them different photographs

when the family learn that there hasn’t been a suicide case in months Gerland, Mr and Mrs B are delighted, Eric and Sheila still show remorse and guilt, as MR B begins a speech about how the younger generation believe they know everything the phone rings, it is the police, they say a girl has drunk bleach and died in the infirmary and someone is coming to question them
