what is plot
The plot of a short story or novel consists of several basic events that form a whole narrative
What is a narrative
The whole story in a short message
conflicts
Something to create tension that must be resolved and it develops complexity
Exposition
The beginning of the narrative we learn important background info about the characters the setting and the situation
rising action
A inciting incident or significant event the conflict becomes more clear and the main character starts to experience complications
climax
The point when the story suspense emotions and tensions peak is the climax
suspense
Tensions created by artful delays and display of info
comedy
The protagonists situation often improves
tragedy
The tragedy usually worsens the narrative builds to this point and any events following the climaz happen fairly quick
falling action
Opposite of the rising actions it is resolving the climax
Denouement and resolution
Conflict has reached resolution This is often the shortest part of the plot
In medias res
A latin term meaning in the middle of action or just prior to an important event midway through the overall story
Flashbacks
what happened before to the story beginning
foreshadowing
Hints to a upcoming event
setting
creates expectations for the reader
