Plot
several basic events that form a whole narrative
Narrative
a short story
conflict
tension, opposition, or struggle that drives a plot
exposition
the important background information about the characters, the setting, and situation, begin to understand nature of the conflict
Rising action
after an incident or event, the conflict becomes more clear and main characters start to experience complications
Climax
point at which the story’s suspense, emotions, and tensions peak
suspense
a state or feeling of excited or anxious uncertainty about what may happen.
comedy
a storytelling genre that uses laughter and humor in order to entertain and amuse
tragedy
an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress, such as a serious accident, crime, or natural catastrophe.
Falling Action
details the effects of what happens at the climax, conflict comes to a resolution
denouement
“untying the knot”, learn how conflict reached resolution or the moral of the story
resolution
the act of finding an answer or solution to a conflict, problem
in media res
in the middle of the action
flashbacks
what happened prior to the story
foreshadowing
hinting at events to come
