Plot
the main events of a play, novel, movie, or similar work, devised and presented by the writer as an interrelated sequence
Narrative

Exposition
the first paragraph or paragraphs in which the characters, setting , and basic information is introduced
Rising Action
all the events that happen in a story on the way to the climax
Climax
the point in the narrative where the tension, excitement, or stakes reach the highest level
Suspense
a literary device in which tension holds our attention between one moment and another
Comedy
a storytelling genre that uses laughter and humor in order to entertain and amuse
Tragedy
a genre of drama based on human suffering and, mainly, the terrible or sorrowful events that befall a main character
Falling Action
the action that occurs immediately after the big climax has taken place and the action shifts towards resolution instead of escalation
Denouement
conclusion after the climax of a narrative in which the complexities of the plot are unraveled and the conflict is finally resolved.
Resolution
the end of the story

in the middle of things
Flashbacks
an interruption in the chronological order or timeline of a narrative to give additional information or backstory needed to further the reader’s understanding
foreshadowing
is a plot element that hints at something to come later in the story
