Learn of Hamlets love for Ophelia- their love is not approved by Polonius bc of their social positions

Ophelia reports Hamlets strange behaviour

Claudius recruits R+G to spy on Hammy

A group of visiting actors arrive and Hamlet plans to use them to expose Claudius’ crime

Question 3

Hamlet continues to act strangely + aware that is being spied on

Hamlet directs the actors to perform a play which enacts the kings murder- observes Claudius’ and Gertrude’s response for signs of guilt

Seeks an opportunity to kill Claudius but doesn’t when he says he is praying

Gertrude asks to speak to Hamlet in her bedroom- Polonius is spying on them- Hamlet accidentally kills him

Ghost reappears but only Hamlet can see it

The threat of Hamlet is realised and Claudius sends him to England

On learning of her fathers death, Ophelia goes mad and commits suicide

Laertes returns and vows revenge on Hamlet

Assisted by Claudius, a plot to kill Hamlet is established

Meanwhile Fortinbras is preparing to attack Denmark

Hamlet returns to Denmark

He comes across Ophelia’s grave

Laertes challenges Hamlet to a duel, which he accepts

Claudius has a plan to ensure that Hamlet dies- prepared a poisoned cup and sword

It all goes wrong

By the end, Hamlet, Laertes, Claudius and Gertrude are dead

Fortinbras arrives and is announced as the new ruler of Denmark
