Dead Ball

Jump Ball Violations: 5 total
- both feet inside half of circle
- ball must be tapped by one of jumpers after it reaches highest point
- no jumper can leave position before ball is tapped
- can’t catch ball or tap it more than twice before it touches floor or non jumper
- non jumper can’t go inside circle before ball tapped
Jump Ball Situations: 6 total
- Held Ball
- Out of bounds don’t know which team touched it last
- double free throw violation on last unsuccessful free throw
- live ball lodges
- all quarters after 1st quarter
- after cancelation of equal penalties
Alternating possession arrow
Team that does not gain first possession first possession after jump ball
Entitled to first alternating possession
A violation by team during alternating possession throw in:
Loses throw in
Alternating possession arrow shall be reversed immediately
Alternating possession arrow
Foul by either team
Before quarter or during alternating possession throw in
Does not cause the team entitled to throw in to lose that right
Ball is played with:
Hands ONLY
No running with ball, kicking it or blocking with leg on purpose, strike with fist
Act of shooting
Begins
Ends
-starts continuous movement before releasing ball
-when ball leaves players hand
If Airborne ON SHOT OR LAYUP OR DUNK, feet must return to floor
If player starts act of shooting but gets fouled and passes:
On the floor foul
If player accidentally scores on team basket:
It counts
Captain of other team gets points
Same team inbounds it
If player deliberately scores on his own team basket:
Goal doesn’t count
Ball awarded to opponents must be thrown in free throw line extended in frontcourt
If player causes ball to enter through basket from below:
It’s a violation
Free throw like extended
Throw in opponents frontcourt
