Puck protection
Keep body between opponent and puck, use body to shield hands and stick
Carrying the puck
Head up ,hands away from body ,accelerate with puck and avoid over handling the puck
D join the rush
See whole ice and know where opponents are, be ready to transition to offense- position to find open seem for pass,lanes to jump into, turnovers
Puck support
Position yourself to find a seem or open lanes for passing and present option with stick on ice, use proper spacing and timing, pivot and face puck carrier
Creating time and space
Use delays and cutbacks with your skating, use quiet zones, soft spot.
Processing the puck
Shooting
Catch/load/release
Be deceptive by looking off pass and shot
No extra stick taps in prime scoring area
Dont allow goalie to set feet and gap out
Dont allow opponent to get stick on puck
Stop at net
Stay in scoring area
Keep stick down and be ready for a pass or rebound
Passes
Hard,quick,tape-to-tape passes on forehand
Collect pass using stick, feet or hands
Place indirect passes into area for teammate to skate into
Face the puck on defense
Dont turn your back to the play
Heels to the net
Be ready for transition to offense
Head on a swivel
Continually look over your shoulders
Know where opponents and teammates are located
See the whole ice
Gap control
Limit your opponents time by reducing her space
Use skating skill to maintain defensive side body position
Stick positioning
Keep stick on the ice to cover passing lanes
Play stick on puck to increase your area of influence
Extend stick with elbow to limit lunging and stay balanced on defense
One hand on stick on defense
Angling
Protect middle of the ice first , angle inside out
Stick on stick
Take away the hands
Skate thought the puck
Defensive support
Provide assistance to teammates on defensive side of the puck
Always be ready to help in case of breakdowns
Back-check through middle of ice
Puck retrieval
Get the puck quickly, look over shoulders to see where pressure is coming from, be deceptive to get away from opponent surround puck on forehand or backhand
