Act 1
Exposition- introduces some of the main characters, setting, background, and main conflict
Act ll
Complications/ Rising Actions- a series of complications, the main characters take action to solve problems
Act lll
Turning Point/ Crisis- main characters make a choice that determines the direction of the action. Upward is a comedy, downward is a tragedy.
The crisis is the dramatic and tense moment when the forces of conflict come together
Act lV
Falling actions- events that are the result of the crisis, deeper into disaster, falling straight into tragedy
Act V
Resolution- The greatest climax occurs at the end of the play, main characters die, all loose ends are tied up
Tragedy
A narrative about serious and important actions that end unhappily
