symptoms of bubonic plague
High fever, Aching limbs, Boils, Sickness lasted 3 days. weakest form
pneumonic plague
Caused by breathing in cough droplets from someone who is infected, cough up blood, effects respiratory system, death in 2 days
Septicemic plague
Caused when the infection reaches the bloodstream. Internal bleeding. Fingers, toes and nose turn black and begin to rot away
why did it spread?
tightly packed together, didn’t know causes, treatments and how to stop it. Kings and Governments didn’t think they had responsibility for health.
what did people use for inflammation of the skin?
Camomile lotion which was made from plants like daisies. It is a common ingredient in modern medicines too
what did people tie to the buboes?
live toads or chickens in an attempt to warm and soften the painful swellings
why did people let blood flow from an opened vein?
it was a common medieval treatment that aimed to restore the balance of the four humours.

People believed they were being punished by God as he allowed the plague to spread so people prayed to try and fix it

they would whip themselves so God would take away the plague
