- immagination in greek
- used by Plato to refer to the human way of dealing with appearances.
- inability to perceive whether a perception is an image of something else

what does cave represent
Cave- represents the narrow, enclosed world we live in today
what does the outside represent
Outside the world- a priori knowledge
what does sun represent
Sun- the form of the good
what does the fire represent
Fire- an imitation or particulate of the form of the good
what does the shadows represent
Shadows- everything in our world that is physical and will decay
what does the people represent
Ppl carrying objects- leaders of Athens= corrupt and did not want ppl to question them= why Socrates was killed
what does chained prisoners represent
Chained prisoner- US only have a posterior knowledge= can’t be trusted+ hold us back
what does released prisoners represent
Released prisoner- Socrates other prisoners do not believe him as he is distorted and their a posteriori knowledge holds them back light is blinding but we adapt
