Plates Flashcards
What is the average/expected amount of impaction in a dynamic hip screw fixation?
7 mm
What is the rationale behind the LCDC plate design?
“The rationale for this design is as follows. Whenever one clamps a plate down against the surface of a bone, one markedly diminishes the periosteal blood supply to that area. Theoretically, one would expect this to slow healing of the fracture beneath that plate. The undercutting of the plate decreases the amount of contact that the plate makes with the bone surface, and hopefully will increase the periosteal blood supply and, it is hoped, fracture healing as well.”
gamma nail construct. The more generic name of this type of construct is cephalomedullary nailing system, which is suitable for treatment of a wide range of proximal femoral fractures.
