Plates Flashcards
Why does Asthenosphere mean
when the convection currents in the mantle move the plates
What are the four types of plate boundaries
Constructive
Destructive
Conservative
Collision zone
What are the 8 main plates
Pacific North American South American Nazca African plate Eurasian Antarctica Indo-Australian plate
Describe how the distribution of earthquakes is linked to the earths tectonic plates
(3 marks)
The earthquake locations are very close together, they are also on the plate boundaries. There are less earthquakes on plate boundaries where the plates move away from each other. There are more earthquakes where plate boundaries move towards each other or slide past each other. The highest frequency of earthquakes is around the Pacific plate.
In which direction does a constructive plate boundary move?
It moves away from each other
In which direction does a destructive plate boundary move?
They move towards each other

In which direction does a conservative boundary move?
They move past each other
