Plate Tectonics Flashcards
What are convection currents
Convection currents are when hot magma rises and then cools then falls
What are the four types of plate boundaries
Destructive, constructive, conservative and collision
What is a destructive plate boundary
It is when an oceanic and a continental plate push towards each other. The plate moves under into the subduction zone and melts.
What is a constructive plate boundary
It is when two plates pull apart and molten rises
What is a conservative plate boundary
It is when two plates slide past each other. This is where most earthquakes occur.
What is a collision plate boundary
It is when two continental plates or two oceanic plates move towards each other
What are the parts of a volcano
Vent, magma chamber, crater, cone, lava flow
What is a vent
It is the pipe that brings the magma up
What is a magma chamber
It is the store of molten rock below the ground
What is a crater
It is the opening at the top of the volcano
What is a cone
It is the shape of a volcano, it is formed by layers of lava
What is a lava flow
It is the flow of molten rock from a volcano
What is belle the Earthquakes crust
Crust, mantle, outer core,inner core
