Plate Tectonics Flashcards
Convergent
2 plates that move toward each other to create mountains.
Divergent
2 plates that move away from each other to reveal magma which dry up and turn into a new crust.
Transform
2 plates that slide past each other and make earthquakes.
Where are Volcanoes made?
Volcanoes are made by Divergent boundaries.
Where are Mountains made?
Mountains are made by convergent boundaries
Where are Earthquakes formed.
Earthquakes are formed at Transform boundaries.
What happens when 2 plates converge with different densities?
Subduction is what happens.
What is a rift?
A crack in the rock which lava flows through.
What is a Convection Current?
When heated magma rises and cooled magma goes into the middle. This happens repeatedly.
What are the main 3 types of boundaries ?
Convergent, Divergent, and Transform.
What causes tectonic plates to move?
Convection Currents\
