Plate Load test Flashcards
1
Q
Give advantages and disadvantages of plate load test and relate them to sand and clay
A
Disadvantages
1-There is a scale effect as the size of the plate is smaller than that of the footing (which affect both sand and clays)
2-It does not provide information on the long term consolidation of foundation soils which is non representable of clays however it represents sands.
3-It has a limited depth of influence which affevt the reading for both clays and expensive.
4-Relatively expensive.
Advantages
1-Test footing under actual soil conditions to find bearing capacity.
2-Measure load deflection behavior and settlements which is more or less representable for the short term period.
