Plate Boundaries Flashcards
How many types of plate boundary’s are there
There are 4different unique plate boundary’s
What are the four types of plate boundary’s
Destructive,collision zones,constructive and conservative
What are destructive boundary’s also know as ?
Convergent or tensional
Where destructive plate boundary’s occur
Where oceanic plates are forced under they continental plate
What is an example of a destructive plate boundary?
Where the Nazca plate is forced under the South American plate.
What results are there at a destructive plate boundary?
Volcanic eruptions or earthquakes.
Where do collision zones occur?
Where two continental plates collide
What happens at a collision zone?
Both plates are forced up and form fold mountains
Where do constructive plate boundaries occur?
Where where plates move apart.
What happens at constructive plate boundaries?
Volcanoes are formed as magma wells up and fills the gap. New crust is formed.
What is an alternative name for a constructive plate boundary?
A divergent plate margin.
Where do conservative plate boundaries occur?
Where plates slide past each other in opposite directions or in the same direction at different speeds.
What occurs at conservative plate boundaries?
Shock waves that can produce an earthquake.
What is an example of a conservative plate boundary?
The San Andreas fault in California.
What is another name for a conservative plate boundary?
A transform plate margin.
