Plate boundaries Flashcards

1
Q

Define a constructive plate boundary

A

A divergent boundary between two lithospheric plates that are moving apart; a plate boundaries breaking apart from one another to make two.

Q

Define a destructive plate boundary

A

A convergent boundary between adjacent crustal plates that are moving towards each other, where crust is being destroyed by subduction; when two tectonic plates are moving towards each other and one is pushed underneath the other.

Q

Define a Conservative plate boundary

A

A junction in the Earth’s crust between two crustal plates that move past each other in opposite directions along a transform fault , where crust is being neither created nor destroyed; when two tectonic plates move past each other and ‘scrape’ the sides causing earthquakes.
