Plastic Processes Flashcards
What are the properties of Cutting?
g
What are the properties of Injection moulding?
Produces complex and intricate shapes/high production output/ cost effective and efficient.
What are the properties of Plastic extrusion?
Produces the cross section of the component which can be extremely complex this allows the designer to produce hollow item where the thickness of each wall can be different./ Produces complex cross sections/ extrusion doesn’t leave marks/ its a continuous process and components can be cut to desired length/ consistent cross-section
What are the properties of rotational moulding?
Larger components can be made, Design flexibility allowing complex geometry,Parts offer strength and durability, Consistent wall thickness, Limited materials waste
What are the properties of Vacuum Forming?
Inexpensive process, flexibility, high speed
What are the properties of Blow moulding?
Fast process, suitable mass production which is an automated production, shapes that are produced can be complex / The thickness of the walls can be closely controlled
What are the properties of Laminating?
Allows thickness, strength and protection
What are the properties of Compression moulding?
Lower cost Tooling, Produces more intricate parts, Fewer knit lines on final product
What are the properties of Casting?
Produces smooth surface finish, ability to cast complex shapes with thin walls, Provides dimensional accuracy
What are the properties of Bending?
Simple process, the strip heater is an expensive piece of equipment and the formers are cheap to produce, inexpensive process.
What are the properties of Powder coating?
Tough and durable coatings, protects the surface move, ease application, cost effective
