Q

Mechanism of action of delayed hypersensitivity reaction

A

attachment of chemical to protein in skin becomes an antigen: also macrophages, helpter T cells and cytotoxic t cells are involved.

Q

Rx: of delayed hyper sensitivity reaction

A

for mild cases, take oral antihistamine.
Burrow solutions soaks for skin to dry up weeping lesions
For more severe cases, take oral cortisone (10 times a day)

Q

Signs and symptoms of immediate hypersensitivity reaction

A

severity of inflammatory response
2 types
local reaction: wheel, flare
Generalized reaction: anaphylaxis= facial/ body swelling, wheezing, hives, low bp Ex. bee stings and food allergies.

10
Q

mechanism of action for immediate hypersensitivity reaction

A

macrophages present antigen to B cells, this produces IgE antibodies. the antibodies attach to mast cells after first exposure. mast cells release histamine upon second exposure. then inflammatory response reaction.

  • protein on wall of pollen released when binds to stigma, also when binds to your respiratory mucosa
  • when patient comes in contact with allergen, mast cells release histamine (steps) blood vessels “leak” thus, runny nose, watery eyes, wheel and erythematous flare.

Q

How would you know that you have an oak tree?

17
Q

______- _____ of all hardwood lumber in US, almost all herbivores eat

18
Q

end buds clustered on oaks have what

19
Q

Talk about the red oak group 21 species

A
bristle tips (ends of the leaves)
inside nut hair
2 year to mature 1st twigs, 2nd brachlets
acorn yellowm bitter, inedible, high fat
bark darker
20
Q

White oak group 13 species

A
rounded
inside nut no hair
1 year to mature only twigs
acorn white, sweet, low fat
bark lighter
(less tannic acid in acorn????)
21
Q

what is alleopathy??

A

chemicals that affect sprout and growth of other plants using root exudation, volatilization, leaf litter residue and decomposotion

22
Q

what is tannic acid?

A

it is phenolic - astringent, tannin to cure leather

23
Q

Tannic acid is used to treat

A

can be used in tea, it is antiviral, antiseptic, antitumor and carcinogenic

24
Q

CAM for tannic acid

A

treatment for skin disorders in germany and burns in china

25
quercus alba
white oak : round tips
26
quercus falcata (means sickle)
southern red oak, U shaped base and bristle tips and yellow acorns
27
quercus stellata (shaped like star)
post oak - part of white oak group
28
which has more tannic acid between the red and white oak group
red (has less so it is less yellow) (more yellow has more tannic acid)
29
leaves of magnoliaceae are
simple, alternate, contain pellucid dots
30
how does magnoliaecea flowers look like
large white petals
31
floral formula for magnoliaeceae
T 6 to infinite, A infinite, G infinite: calyx and corolla are not differentiated, stamens infinite, carpals infinite,
