Plants Flashcards
Photosynthesis word equation
carbon dioxide+water-glucose+oxygen
Photosynthesis chemical equation
CO2+H2O-C6H12O6+O2
Meaning of photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the process of using carbon dioxide and water to create energy and oxygen in the form of sugar.
Respiration equation
glucose+oxygen-carbon dioxide+water
Test for photosynthesis
drop iodine on the leaf and if it turns blue-black, the leaf has starch inside.
Use of chlorophyll
It is the green pigment present on leaves that absorb sunlight, parts that aren’t green have no starch.
Use of stomata
Used to exchange gases(oxygen&Carbon dioxide) and their size controls the rate of transpiration.
Use of stigma
it receives the pollen from visiting insects.
Use of xylem
Tubes that transport water and dissolved minerals from the roots to the stems and leaves.
Use of phloem
found in roots and stems outside the xylem. It transports glucose from the leaves to the stems and roots.
Pollination
It’s the act of transferring pollen from the male anther to the female stigma.
Plant cell uses (cell wall)
provides protection, support, and a fixed shape to the cell.
Plant cell uses (cell membrane)
controls the materials in and out of the cell.
Plant cell uses (nucleus)
controls activities in the cell.
Plant cell uses (chromosome)
carries genetic information.
