Plant Systems Flashcards
What is the function of the roots
is to anchor the plant, collect water and store food
what is the function of the stem
to support the leaves, flowers and fruits and to transport nutrients to the rest of the plant through the xylem and phloem
what is the function of leaves
to produce food for the plant via photosynthesis. stomata (allow gas exchange to occur (oxygen out carbon dioxide in)). Chloroplasts (where photosynthesis occurs ( function is to turn sunlight into energy and food for the plant)
what is the function of flowers
to reproduce. petals(attract pollinators and protect reproductive organs). nectary is to produce nectar. sepals(to support petals and protect developing flower)
photosynthesis
carbon dioxide + water +with sunlight energy = oxygen and glucose
function of male reproductive organs include stamen
To disperse pollen. stamen=to produce pollen grains which house male sex cells which are necessary for reproduction
function of female reproductive organs include carpel
to produce ovules. carpel= produces ovules and ensures efficient fertilization
