What are the vegetative parts of plant?
Roots
Stems
Leaves
What are the reproductive parts of the plant?
Flowers
Fruits
Seeds
What is the function of roots?
- To absorb nutrients and moisture,
- anchor the plan in the soil
- provide physical support for the stem
- food storage organs
What are cotyledons?
First leaves of a plant and are modified for food storage.
What are two major groups of flowering plans?
Monocotyledons
Dicotyledons
What are monocotyledons?
Plants that have one cotyledon in the seed
What are dicotyledons?
Dicotyledons are plants that have two cotyledons in the seed.
What is a leaf blade or lamina?
Broad, flat part of the leaf and photosynthesis occurs here.
What is a leaf margin?
The margin is the edge of the leaf blade
What is the petiole?
The stem like part of the leaf that joins the blade to the stem. There are tubes that connect with veins of the blade, some tubes carry water and some food that the leaf has made.
What is a sheath?
Only found in monocotyledons, it is the base of the blade and is partially or completely encloses the stem
What are leaf veins?
Veins support the blade and carry food and water in the leaf, some have one large central vein called the midrib which extends from the base of the blade to its tip.
