What are the parts of a flower?
Stigma, style, ovary, anther, ovule, petal, sepal, receptacle
What are phytochromes?
leaf pigments which are used by the plant to detect periods of light and darkness
What are the 2 forms of phytochromes?
Active and inactive
How does an inactive phytochrome turn into an active phytochrome?
When it absorbs red light
How does an active phytochrome turn into an inactive phytochrome?
When it absorbs far red light or is in the absence of light
What are the features of a seed?
Testa, micropyle, cotyledon, plumule, radicle
What is a testa?
An outer seed that protects the embryonic plant
What is the micropyle?
a small pore in the outer covering of the seed, that allows for the passage of water
What is a cotelydon?
contains the food stores for the seed and forms the embryonic leave
What is the plumule?
the embryonic shoot (also called the epicotyl)
What is the radicle?
The embryonic root
What are the five conditions that may be required for germination?
Fire, freezing, digestion, washing, scarification
